Preventing cooling system damage

Summertime coming up and today I’m going to talk to you about preventing cooling system damage. According to the auto club, your cooling system (water pump, radiator, heater hoses) which can put you on the side of the road more than anything else combined such as your fuel pump, starters, flat tires, etc. How can you avoid this? Coolant lubricates all components avoiding early death. 100,000 mile coolant, really??  It does not exist! (Even though they are  getting better) I recommend changing your coolant every 40,000 miles and mixing it with distilled water. The reason for mixing distilled water instead of tap water because tap water has chemicals (hardness) that may be harmful to your radiator. If your mechanic doesn’t have distilled water, bring him some! Keeping your cooling system clean and topped off will save you a ton of money in the long run. You will not have to change your radiator, water pump, hoses, as often if ever. Be aware of what kind of coolant you are using.

Proper coolant is very important, do not be fooled  by the color. Toyota, GM, and Volkswagen all have red coolant with different phosphate levels. German vehicles are phosphate free, Japanese vehicles were very heavy on phosphate, and American vehicles are moderate. Make sure to use coolant specifically for your vehicle. Remember, keep your coolant clean, topped off, and mix with distilled water. An article about your air conditioning will be posted within the next few days so stay tuned for more posts about maintaining your vehicle.
